
The Genesis Winter Series training will start on Sunday, December 4th at the Univeristy of Charleston Pharmacy School Parking Lot. The training will last for 10 weeks with group coached sessions every Sunday afternoon. The Charleston Winter Series will have a 5k on December 11th, 8k on January 15th and 10k on February 12th. Registration for the Charleston Winter Series races is separate and is not required to participate in the class.
The class is great for newer runners looking to build their endurance and for more experienced runners looking to build their aerobic base to prepare for the spring racing season. It also helps keep runners accountable to continue running throughout the winter season. The class teaches the essentials of training by heart rate to develop your aerobic base that applies to all endurance events. The class will also have an emphasis on mobility and strength development.

Who: For runners with at least three months of running experience. Minimum requirements prior to week 1 are running 3 times per week of at least 30 minutes with a long run of at least 40 minutes. A heart rate monitor is recommended for the class but not required and work on the foam roller will be prescribed for home.
What: Coaching on general principles of base-building, training by heart rate to develop aerobic endurance, monitoring progress in aerobic development and incorporating strength training into your running schedule.
When: Meet for weekly-coached group workouts at 2:00 pm on Sunday afternoon and for the races on the dates listed above. Classes will run about an hour and a half.

How much: General admission is $90. Military, first responders, and family members are $50 and kids 16 and under with an adult are $25. There's a maximum registration fee of $160 per family in one household.
