"What the Past 9 Weeks Has Meant to Me."
I signed up for the running class with my wife, with a mission in mind to encourage her because she has always said, ”I can’t run”. Guess what? She found out that she can run and I’m so proud of her for pushing through the class like a champion and I look forward to seeing her cross the finish line on race day. My son and daughter are both great runners, and my daughter and her boyfriend will be joining us on race day…Our whole family now enjoys running together and we keep track of each other’s progress like little kids. We will be celebrating my 53rd birthday on race day, and we are looking ahead for other races to run as a family.
One personal experience that I would like to share with others is that I spoke to you at the initial meeting about sports injuries that I had; torn calf muscles, a repaired torn meniscus, twisted ankles, etc. All were injuries that I’ve experienced playing basketball, and at 53 it seems like it takes longer to get ready (with all the braces, etc.) than it does to play…but I just can’t give it up. You said to me “running may actually reduce the risk of injuries on the ball court because it will strengthen parts and pieces of the body that are required for such a physical sport”. Well, I’m sold after 8 weeks of training, I feel better than ever and actually look forward to running each week.
Thanks to you and our coach, David Kephart, for showing us what a joy running can be.
