When my mom asked if I would be interested in signing up for the Genesis class with her, I was VERY hesitant. Neither of us have ever ran and I remember absolutely hating running in gym class. But I reluctantly agreed and signed us up. Before we started I remember reading the week by week program and looking at the later weeks and thinking "ummm yeah right"...I had my mind made up that at my weight I would hit a certain point where I physically could not complete the times...that someone this obese would just hit a wall where my weight would no longer allow me to advance like everyone else.
Fast forward to week 8 when on Monday I ran 28 minutes in 96 degree heat index weather on the hills of Teays Valley Road...and it's like I'm a whole different person. My attitude has completely shifted. I have so much confidence that I am going to complete this race next Saturday with no walking. Around week 3 I started tracking my calories/carbs with MyFitnessPal and the tracking plus my new running hobby I am already down 16.4 lb. I’m thankful for the Genesis training as well as the coaches at Teays Valley for always being so encouraging and never making me feel like my weight would be a limitation. I can't wait to sign up as a grad next time.
